Target Audience

My Magazine Questionnaire Analysis

I produced a survey of what products my target audience would mostly buy! Over half of my participants said clothes, with a quarter saying make-up. Moreover, all four products that came up, could all be deemed as 'feminine', clothes and make-up, stereo-typically, are very popularly associated as female thought processes when spending money. Therefore, when I come to make my magazine, the advertisement that I place within, will henceforth come from clothing lines/brands, and depending on the price of the magazine and the content (aka. target audience) I can change the 'class' of the advertisement, for example, If I make the magazine 50p lets say, then I'll put advertising like Primark inside, as it matches the target audience, you could even merge the advertising idea with top tips on outfits of the week, by spending the least amount possible to look fashionable, this could then lead to getting readers to send in their outfits of the week and each week (or whatever time period that you issue your magazine) then the best will be chosen (or even the top 3) and put in the magazine. On the other hand if the magazine's roughly £4, you expect up market fashion i.e. Ralph Lauren, Fred Perry, Tommy Hilfiger.

This is only one piece of data, yet, clearly suggests that women are more interested in magazines as it's very feminine based. In addition, I asked a two groups of males and females, and nearly all the girls filled in my questionnaire, whereas no boys took part, this was a voluntary exercise and blatantly the females are more likely to take part, read, and be willing to take part. This suggests somewhat to me that I shouldn't make a unisex magazine and make one for girls, i think this because they are more likely to take part in quizzes  competions and talk about the fashions/ gossip within the magazine! Whereas you may say males would rather talk about gaming or be messing around playing football, reading in general is more of a relaxed leisure activity, and this may be deemed also why girls are more mature, less 'highly sprung' and therefore more likely to sit down with a magazine and chill out..

In my magazine I could tie in the fashion and clothing, with pictures and maybe subtly advertise the products in a way that could be seen as trend setters for women, this links in nicely with the competition too, and maybe even at the end of the month give a prize away (like the selected clothes they've made to look fashionable).

  1. A good basic account Harry. Would have been good to read an evaluation of your methods.
